Inspirations/Influences

This is my inspirations page. I will put on here things that inspire our opening or influence what we choose to do, this page will also contain anything we use to pull ideas from or use to help us come up with ideas.

Locations

These two pictures are locations seen in 'The Shining' I took inspiration from the hotel the film is set in because it looks happy and nice but ultimatley it's mean and cruel and murderous. I want our locations to have a nice, safe feel about them to lull the viewers into a false sense of security. Although we wanted to use more familiar places to make the audience more scared because of the reality of the situation they're seeing.
Below are other images/locations I used as inspiration for our thriller opening.

Actors & Characters

For characters I used mulitple female murderers, psychopaths and villains for inspiration. One of the bigest inspirations being the female antagonist from the grudge. She's one of the creepiest antagonists from a movie, I think she has a very unique feel to her. Something we wanted to create with our antagonist.

This is the grudge she's the antagonist from a well known horror film.

Grudge

I took inspiration from her because she has a very unique look.

Grudge

She's quite creepy and she uses strange, unnatural movements in her film.

Grudge

I took inspiration from her because she's one of the most well known antagonists who's known for being scary and creepy and very long lasting.

Carrie

Carrie

This is a photo of Carrie, she's a character in the movie 'Carrie' based on the book by Stephen King.

Carrie

I took inspiration from her primarily because of her backstory. She's kind of portrayed as innocent and though we're only doing the opening of a thriller I think it's important to kind of have a bit of a plan about the backstory of characters to properly build on them.

I also took inspiration from Carrie because she's ultimately dangerous regardless of how she comes across. She is a murderer at the end of the film and we want our audience to feel conflicted about their feelings towards her.

Amanda (SAW)

Amanda (SAW)

This is Amanda from the 'SAW' franchise. She's one of my favourite antagonists in media.

Amanda (SAW)

Amanda (SAW)

She's the sidekick of main antagonist 'Jigsaw' she's the right hand person for him, she supports him.

Amanda (SAW)

Amanda (SAW)

I take inspiration from her because although she's a villain she's does what she does because she sees Jigsaw as a father figure to her and does it out of loyalty. This reinforces the inflicted feelings of the audience on villains.

Amanda (SAW)

In general I take inspiration from her because she's one of my favourite female characters in all film and television.

Drusilla (Buffy)

Drusilla (Buffy)

Drusilla is a character from the TV show 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer'

Drusilla (Buffy)

Drusilla (Buffy)

She's an inspiration because she's quite a strong character, she comes across as quite dazed and unaware of what's going on but she's still dangerous.

Another reason I'm inspired by her is her look, she has a vintage, gothic look which is the look we want our antagonist to have.

Costume, Props & Make Up

For costume, props and make up we as a group looked at using implicit violence. So we didn't want to use explicitly seen violence or weapons. Because of this only the effects of the murderer are seen.

We didn't have a particular inspiration for our props because we kind of wanted the scenes to look normal and close to something the viewers will have, we also did the same for make up.
For costume we wanted our murderer to have a kind of feminine look but still look creepy and dangerous. I took inspiration for the murderers costume by looking at gothic styles of clothing.

Costume Inspiration 1

Costume Inspiration 1

I took inspiration from this dress because it's quite feminine which is the image we want to go for.

Costume Inspiration 2

Costume Inspiration 2

I took inspiration from this outfit because it's got the gothic, feminine image we want. Also it's longer than the first and we want a longer dress for our antagonist.

Costume Inspiration 3

Costume Inspiration 3

I took inspiration from this dress because it's more simplistic than the last two and it's much longer than the previous two aswell. We wanted a longer dress so less is revealed when we see her in the opening.
