Bombay Bicycle Club

Bombay Bicycle Club is an English indie-rock band, consisting of four members the band has two EP's and four albums. 'Bombay Bicycle Club' is named after a restaurant chain of the same name.

The image on this advert is in black and white and features a long shot of what appears to be a park area, there's lots of people in the shot but it's unclear as to whether or not the band are in the photo. The use of an outdoor shot like this matches the genre convention of outdoor locations in the music videos, it connotes an openness and honesty about their music and what it represents and means. The lack of the band (or clarity on where the band are) presents the idea that they want to remain anonymous so that their music can talk for them to present the ideas that the music holds. This suggests creativity and talent in their industry and puts emphasis on the music above the bands image, as conventional seen in the other adverts I've looked at so far. The picture has a black and white filter on it making it easier to read the writing over the top and creating a clear style.

The text on the advert is in a sans serif font, the font is light blue making it more visible on top of the grey image and using a limited colour palette conventional in the indie music videos. The use of black/white with one or two lighter colours to contrast is also something seen before in the adverts, it creates a distinct style and connotations depending on the colours. The use of light blue particularly on the top of the advert where the sky is on the picture creates the idea that the band brings colour into the scene, saying their music lights up the world. Instead of the world being in colour the band is. The text (with the exception of the band name) is all in upper-case letters creating the effect of a urgent, loud tone when reading the writing, it also connotes the importance of all the text on the advert highlighting everything instead of a particular word/phrase.

The layout of the magazine advert is conventional with the band name at the top, followed by the album name and 'out now' beneath of which it highlights singles from the album and then the bands website at the bottom of the page. This layout presents the most important/recognisable information first followed by lesser known details that are more likely to widen their audience and construct a bigger fanbase for the band. This layout creates a clear structure for adverts, I think it would be interesting to play around with this structure however to be more unconventional, it may be beneficial to follow some of the conventional structure however as to promote the artist and the album in the same way that the other adverts do.
