During todays lesson we looked at lip syncing in artists and the music industry.
Lip syncing is when an artist mouths the lyrics to their song instead of singing it, this is the technique used to create music videos but some artists lip sync during concerts or 'live' performances. This is a controversial subject as many believe this is wrong and feel they've been cheated out of the money they paid for the live performances..
Artists lip sync for many reasons; they want studio quality sound live, they don't want to mess up in front of a large audience or they just can't sing.
A famous example of lip syncing is Ashlee Simspon whose track messed up during a performance on a TV show. This incident caused her singing career to dissipate and her to do a rather embarrassing dance in front of millions on live TV. Due to this lots of people refer to srtists messing up lip syncing as Ashlee Simpson. Below is the Ashlee Simpson video and an example of Lindsay Lohan 'doing an Ashlee Simpson'.

Another famous example of lip syncing artist is the band 'Milli Vanilli', a duo who never sang their songs. For the entirety of their careers they were lip syncing to other peoples music. It eventually came out that the pair had signed contracts without attorneys very young and were supposedly manipulated into performing using the contract. They claim it wasn't their fault because of this and it was revealed Frank Farian had given them an advance after signing the contract. It was later evealed Farian had done the same to another group 'Boney M' hiring performers to become the faces of the group.
Below is a video detailing the fall of Milli Vanilli.
