17. Chvrches - Leave a Trace
18. Chvrches - Gun
Chvrches (pronounced Churches) are a scottish band, consisting of three members. 'Gun' is a single released from their 2013 album 'The Bones of what you believe' and 'Leave a Trace' was from their 2015 album 'Every Open Eye'. Both videos are solely performance and use contrasting visuals to their lyrics.

COMPARISON:
Mise En Scene; 'Leave a Trace' has a much simpler style, it's more conventional with a dark colours scheme and outside based setting, using a mix of both high and low key lighting for effect. This is typical of acoustic indie/rock music videos. Whereas 'Gun' is a stark contrast using lots of bright colours particularly noticeable is the use of pastel colours something I've not seen in any of the previous analyses, it also uses primarily high key lighting and includes the entire band in the video, both of these are relatively unconventional in the music videos I've analysed. I think that although 'Gun' is impressive as a video we'll stick to more conventional ideas of mise en scene for the majority of our music video.
Camerawork; Because 'Gun' is very excessive in its use of editing this is the main focus of the video meaning the other elements (such as camerawork) are less impressive and more plain and basic. Gun uses a small amount of shots that highlight the different kinds of effects used in it, 'Leave a Trace' however has a much wider range of camerawork used for lots of different effects as it's less heavily relying on editing and much more on the uses of mise en scene and camerawork. I think we'll try to put equal focus on each element and yet try to make one stick out more to the audience.
Editing; 'Gun' is extensive and impressive in its use of editing including many not often seen effects such as kaleidoscope style editing, inverted/layered images, wipes and the use of geometric shapes to transition editing techniques. This is very unique and interesting to look at visually it creates a kind of futuristic effect however 'Leave a Trace' is much more simplistic (although still effective) in its use of editing, using filters and bright flashes to create suddenness and a cold atmosphere. Although it does so using basic effects I prefer 'Leave a Trace' opposed to 'Gun' as I prefer using small elements to create a bigger effect, I also believe that editing can be overused and unless we choose to focus out video around it like in 'Gun' then it won't be as effective or interesting. I also believe it may be too busy and viewers may end up feeling confused and dis-orientated by it, for these reasons I don't think we'll use editing as extensively in the way 'Gun' does.
