Digipak Analysis
Today I began research on Digipaks, I began collecting the digipaks that I wanted to analyse for this task, some artists I have analysed music videos for and some I have not. I believe this will allow me to look at links between the products an artist releases whilst still addressing a wider range of artist throughout my analyses.
For each Digipak I'm going to number each picture/panel of the digipak to make it easier to understand which panel I'm referring to when writing.

Digipak Analyses Convention Summary
Today I finished my Digipak analyses, in order to ger an overall view I decided to do a small summary on the conventions I found based on my digipak research.
Below is a gallery featuring all the digipaks I analysed (10).

The majority of digipaks had four panels, we plan on doing a fold out digipak which will have six panels like the Fun. digipak. Colour scheme in the digipaks was very dependant on the stars image and album themes, some went dark (The 1975), some were white (Mumford and Sons), some had a range of colours (Fleet Foxes) and some changed their colourng on each panel (Florence and the machine). I think because there was such a wide range of colour scheme and colours used we'll stick with choosing colours to match our music video and create synergy like that expressed through Lana Del Rey/Fleet Foxes.
Very few of the digipaks analysed did not use an image of their artist, Fleet Foxes and the 1975 were two who chose not to use pictures of themselves as it contradicted their established mise en scene and style. Those who did use images used primarily close ups, we're likely to end up conforming to this convention however I'd also like to experiment with camera shots and angles particularly for the inside of the digipak.
In terms of text a white font was most popularly used and I think we'll use one too because we plan to have a dark colour scheme and therefore image, I also believe it will highlight the text and add to the complexity of our artists image since she's going to be portrayed as purposely contradictory. Serif was also the more popular choice with text and again I think we'll use this to juxtapose the image of our artist and also to create an iconography for her through our use of typography. Although we liked the idea of a hand-written font we think it may not be as suitable or fit with the style for our digipak (and magazine advert) and I think we're more likely to use a clear typed font, potentially considering a type-writer style font.
