Initial Ideas: Magazine Advert/Digipak
Today we discussed our research on magazine adverts and digipaks so far, putting our research together we decided to start coming up with some ideas for the two tasks. After collating some ideas we began to decide which ones were more suitable and which ones were more conventional, grouping the unconventional and conventional together. After doing this we came up with a kind of foundation for two magazine advert drafts which I then sketched later (below). These initial sketches were approved by my group members and I have done a neat copy of each (also below) to use as a plan for our photo shoot.
![]() Digipak DraftingThese are some of our initial ideas for our digipak, we plan to have six panels to account for the fold out section. On this particular page we're mostly drafting sketches for the font, the apple is the back and the photo at the bottom is the back/font to juxtapose the different looks of the artist. | ![]() Digipak DraftingThis again is pore ideas for the font cover featuring apples which will be part of our iconography for our artist. | ![]() Magazine Ad DraftingThese are the two main ideas we had for our magazine advert, after extensive discussion I drew up these drafts and after talking to my group members we decided to do a neat version of both to see them more clearly/at a better standard. |

![]() Magazine Ad DraftingThis is the first magazine advert neat(er) draft, it's much more conventional than our other idea and I think is likely to be the one that's favourable in our audience research as well as within the group. | ![]() Magazine Ad DraftingThis is the first neat(er) version of advert #2, it's more detailed and the placement of items is much better. I started annotating this one to get some ideas for the final version that we're gonna show for audience research. I think this one may be a little busy for a magazine advert however. | ![]() Magazine Ad DraftingThis is our final draft of the paper version of the first magazine advert idea, it's been annotated and Steph is going to do a digitally drawn version to make it look more professional for our audience feedback. |
Below are three finalised neat versions of our magazine adverts, I came up with two of them and Jemma drafted one. Steph then took the final drafts we gave her to draw them digitally in order to make them look more professional for our audience research on them.

This was the first magazine advert to be finished digitally, it features the artist in shallow focus in the background of the picture and the males boots and the apple in focus.

This advert is a close up of our artist and much more conventional in terms of shot and artists NVC. However it's much more unconventional in its layout.

This is arguably the most conventional plan we have with a close up and very conventional layout.
Below are three finalised neat versions of our digipak adverts, we choose to do one digipak draft each and then go get audience feedback on the paper versions.

Initial Ideas: Music Video
Below is a link to the song we're using in our production.
In today's lesson we discussed our initial ideas for our video based on the research we've conducted so far, during this we considered conventions we'll challenge and conform to.
Our initial ideas were composed in a mindmap which is featured in the picture below.

To the left is a picture of our rough initial ideas map, due to how messy and spread out everything was we chose to do a neatened up version to make the information and conventional/unconventional ideas more clear.

We did some audience fedback on these digipak drafts, asking participants to view all three digipaks and decide which one they liked best. Unfortunately each digipak had roughly the same number of votes. Because of this we decided to take elements of each digipak and put them together depending on what voters commented on without prompt. It was found most people thought Stephanies cover was best
although there may have been bias
in the fact she used ink instead of
pencil when drawing, voters liked the
inside of my digipak however, notably
the picture of the shoes and people
liked the creativity displayed in
construction of images in Jemma's
digipak. Going from this feedback
and our conventions and which ones
we'd be able to look most professional
I contructed a digipak which I like to
consider a pastiche of all three drafts.
