Coldplay
Coldplay is a band made up of four members, formed in 1996 the band achieved mainstream success in 2010 when their song 'Yellow' became a hit. I analysed their music video for 'Trouble' in my previous research.

This magazine advert is unconventional in it's inclusion of several bright colours meshed together in a disorganised way. The previous adverts I've looked at limit the use of colours some using only two or three colours for simplicity. The large amount of contrasting colours makes the advert look very busy and incredibly eye catching because of the lack of clarity and separation of the colours. It creates a very unique style with the white text layered over the top of the image, the image is of graffiti connoting themes of outlawed creativity since graffiti although a form of art is not allowed on most buildings/walls. It also creates a unique feel to the advert since not many artists particularly of the indie genre would make this design choice, it being more conventional to be simplistic with style.
The font style like the colour choice is bold, choosing only to outline letters instead of using filled in alphabet, this doesn't match the background it makes it much more difficult to read the text than reading a bolded sans serif font would. The interesting design choices creates a futuristic feel because of the centred design on the advert and the used of a white futuristic font. This is unique compared to the other adverts most of which went for a more nostalgic theme, this could be because Coldplay is getting to be quite an old band and are perhaps trying to reach out to the younger generations with a change in style.
Although in terms of layout the advert is relatively conventional with the band name at the top followed by the album name, release dare and internet links for a wider audience reach, the name of the band is in a smaller font than the album name, being the same size as the release date. This could be because Coldplay is a well-known band and want to put emphasis on the album and its release date because of how unique and memorable the imagery for the album is. The band name is likely to be the first thing read however (Z Line of Vision) and also likely because the colours will potentially be disorientating initially to those looking at the advert.
Although the advert is memorable and eye catching we're likely to stick to a limited colour palette and have more emphasis on the artists name as our artist is nowhere near as well-known as Coldplay. Although I do like the futuristic almost spacey graffiti in the center of the advert.
