Fleet Foxes

The image on this magazine advert instead of being a photo of the artist its of a 1559 painting by Pieter Bruegel the Elder. The use of the image is meant to represent the album  (said by the lead singer) as initially it looks like a pretty painting but looking in depth you see a weird kind of chaos and each image has its own story like the tracks on the album. The use of this image  connotes  thoughtfulness from the band and displays creativity with their image (Dyer: Creativity/Talent). The use of this also cuts the band out from the image suggesting they want the album to receive praise, the use of an old painting also suggests some interest in other areas outside of music. This is the only image used, putting focus on it and what it represents/means for the band and their music. I think this is an interesting idea however we're likely to stick with an original image of our artist.

All the text is in a white serif font, only varying in size. At the top (conventionally) is the bands name (and the name of the album), this is the biggest text on the advert and therefore the most important/ information and the text that draws in their audience. The rest of the text is much smaller, the biggest text after their name reads 'THE ALBUM OF THE YEAR', this promotes their talent and their product as a band, this also ensures quality of the album as its received an accolade. The text underneath this also promotes the album as its a list of the several accolades the album/band has received, again putting emphasis on how good the music is and promoting the music over the band themselves. This also acts as encouragement for audiences to buy the music because it's recevied praise from well known sources such as Q Magazine and Mojo.

Underneath the accolades there's a message saying 'Out now' alerting the audience that they can go buy it now, further promoting the album and the band. Underneath this information it details a special version of the CD, this is presumably for more dedicated fans who already know the band/have the original (less impressive) album. Social networking links (in this case MySpace) are seen at the bottom of the advert this allows audiences to reach them on more platforms and allows them to explore a wider audience through the internet.

In the bottom right corner there is text reading 'Available at iTunes' this is the last thing the audience will see before turning the page, this allows the audience an alternative to buying a physical copy of the album. allowign audiences to get the album digitally increases the reach of the band hopefully generating more popularity for them. Putting the iTunes link at the bottom corner of the page encourages potential customers to buy the hard copy of the album using the digital version as a second choice. It also allows their audience to see them as upkeeping with technological advancements since its an area that evolves rapidly and helps them to appeal to younger audiences who may not know of them.

Fleet Foxes is an American indie-folk band, I have not analysed one of their videos in my music video research. This is a magazine advert for their self-titled studio album (their first studio album) released in 2008. It's been voted best album of 2008 by several critics.
